feta cheese — With care during pregnancy
A note from Emily
Emily's honest take
Hello mama! You can absolutely enjoy feta cheese while pregnant, but there's an important detail to keep in mind: it must be made from pasteurized milk. Unpasteurized (raw) feta carries a risk of harmful bacteria like Listeria, which can be dangerous during pregnancy. Most commercially sold feta in major supermarkets in the US, UK, and Australia is pasteurized, but it's always best to check the label for the words "pasteurized milk". If you're eating out or buying artisanal feta, don't hesitate to ask about its pasteurization status. If it's cooked until steaming hot (around 165°F/74°C), it's also considered safe, as the heat kills any potential bacteria.

Always check with your OB if you have any concerns.
