medium rare steak — Best avoided during pregnancy
A note from Emily
Emily's honest take
During pregnancy, it's recommended to thoroughly cook all meat, including steak, to eliminate harmful bacteria and parasites like Toxoplasma, Salmonella, and E. coli that can be found in undercooked meat. Many guidelines advise that whole cuts of beef, like steak, should be cooked to an internal temperature of at least 145°F (63°C) and then allowed to rest for three minutes. Medium-rare steak typically does not reach this minimum safe temperature. Eating undercooked meat when pregnant can increase the risk of foodborne illnesses, which could potentially harm both you and your baby.
