soft cheese — With care during pregnancy
A note from Emily
Emily's honest take
Mama, when it comes to soft cheeses, the most important thing to look for is if they are made with pasteurized milk. Soft cheeses made from unpasteurized (raw) milk carry a higher risk of Listeria bacteria, which can be harmful to you and your baby. Many soft cheeses in grocery stores in the U.S. are pasteurized, but it's crucial to read the label to be sure.

Examples of pasteurized soft cheeses that are generally considered safe include mozzarella, cottage cheese, cream cheese, ricotta, feta, and some goat cheeses without a white rind. However, for mould-ripened soft cheeses like Brie, Camembert, and soft blue-veined cheeses like Roquefort or Gorgonzola, even if they are pasteurized, some guidelines suggest cooking them until they are steaming hot to be extra safe.

Always check with your OB if you have any specific concerns, mama.
