albacore tuna — With care during pregnancy
A note from Emily
Emily's honest take
Hi mama, it's wonderful that you're thinking carefully about your food choices! When it comes to albacore tuna, authoritative guidelines generally suggest enjoying it in moderation. Albacore, sometimes called "white" tuna, typically contains more mercury than canned light tuna (skipjack).

The FDA, EPA, and ACOG recommend limiting albacore tuna to no more than 6 ounces (about one average meal) per week. Some sources suggest limiting it to 4 ounces per week. If you choose albacore, it's often advised not to eat other fish that week to manage overall mercury intake. It's also important to make sure any tuna you eat is fully cooked to avoid harmful bacteria.
