pho — With care during pregnancy
A note from Emily
Emily's honest take
Sweet mama, you can absolutely enjoy a comforting bowl of pho, but there are a few things to keep in mind to make it pregnancy-safe! It's super important to make sure any meat in your pho, like beef or chicken, is thoroughly cooked until it's steaming hot with no pink visible. Raw bean sprouts are often served with pho, but these should be avoided unless they are thoroughly cooked in the steaming hot broth until completely wilted, as they can carry harmful bacteria. The good news is that the broth itself is generally safe because it's simmered for a long time, and fresh herbs are usually fine if they've been well-washed. MSG is also generally considered safe during pregnancy.
