The NHS also suggests avoiding raw, cold-smoked, and cured fish due to the risk of listeria, which can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or make your newborn very ill.

While some guidelines mention that raw fish can be eaten if it has been thoroughly frozen first to kill parasites, many still emphasize the risk of bacteria and prefer cooked options.
